Shaw Du-All Info

$

Hi, I've been trying to do some Shaw Du-All tractor research after admiring Shaw's for quite sometime as here in Wisconsin, I never see them, I just made a package deal on (3) that aren't even home yet, but excited as can be to start researching; R5, R12T and a N8W. I'm realizing though, there isn't alot of info that I'm finding.

I'm wondering if anyone would have any Shaw literature or info that they might be able to send me regarding the various model lines of Shaw riders? I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks, Rob

I have found this site very helpful especially when trying to solve those uncommon problems, often someone somewhere has had the problem and has been given very helpful tips on this site.

x320 won't start

Hey guys, I've done some basic mechanics on my car, so I'd like to try troubleshooting my x320 before I spend the money for someone else to do it. Bear with me here.
  • Info: Someone else was using it and it died while they were on it. I'm not sure if the PTO was engaged when it shut off. When I turn the key I get a single 'click' sound. The hour meter works. Battery is a few months old, I had it tested anyways and it's fine. I used a spark plug tester and did not get a spark from either spark plug.
  • Things I think it might be, deduced from reading similar posts and watching a few videos: Ignition coil, safety switch in brake or seat, wires from safety switches.

Does this sound like a proper diagnosis? Where should I begin?

If it is the igniton coil, is this how I would test it, just without uninstalling it?

If it a switch or bad wiring, are this and this wiring diagram relevant to my model?

Thank you guys so much for taking the time to read this. Any thoughts, tips, and help are welcomed and appreciated.:thanku:

Which model or year range is best?

I have been keeping an eye on the net for a PK. I would like to know if there is a particular year range or model that seems to have the greatest availability of parts. It seems alot of available tractors are always missing something useful, and I want to make sure I buy one that has a good chance at finding the accessories I need.

My wish list...
The PK (1612 or 1614) w/ bar tires & chains
dual trans
FEL
Belly mower
Rototiller
Front blade

Disc plows seem easy to come by. I have an area to put in a garden that is the right size for a tractor like this. My Dad had one that had just the blade 30 years ago, and it was a great tractor.

Thanks for your time

I've found a 2000 model L2500, 4WD, with loader that I really like. Just under 700 hours and $9,500.00. Seems to be at the high end of reasonable. Haven't tried any negotiating yet . Any known trouble spots? Will I need an over running clutch for the PTO?

B & S 18HP Vanguard fuel surge

Well.......it's not really a surge. It runs like its starving for fuel.

When first started, everything is fine. After warmed, the engine runs as if it's starving for fuel. If you engage the PTO (put it under a load) it runs fine. Here's the scenario.

Start it up and run to the spot where I'm going to cut - everything is great. Engage deck - everything still great. Cut grass for 30-45 minutes - everything still hunky doorey. Shut off PTO to run back to the garage - fuel is cutting out. Re-engage PTO - starts running smooth as butter again. Let it sit for a while and start it back up - back to square one.

At first I was thinking the governer. But Since it only happens when it's warm, I'm leaning towards valve clearances or the coil. If it were fuel or air, it would happen all of the time. Since it's a warming issue, my thinking is first to check spark, then valves. Is my thinking correct on this? Any other things to check?

If it matters, this is in a Deere machine.

Need Lawn Boy Silver Series advice

$

Hi there...I haven't been on for a while. Been some busy summer's the last couple....with constant mower troubles and trying to keep up with the grass with nothing but my Lawn Boy walk behind. So I finally was able to buy a brand new lawn tractor, but I still need to use the push mower for close to the house and on a steep front bank. But now the Lawn Boy is acting up. My local mower repair shop says he thinks it's something electrical, but he's so backed up right now that he can't even take it in. So I thought I would turn to MTF for some help. The mower starts straightaway, but then after about 3 or 4 passes it stalls out and won't start again unless I let it sit for about 20 mins. Any idea what the problem might be? It's a 1997 Silver Series, model #10360. Thanks so much for taking a look at my post!

Tire Pressure Guage

I have always believed that test equipment will read most accurately at mid range. That said, do I need two pressure guages, or will one good fifty pound guage be close enough for my 10 pound and my 30 pound tires?

Hi, my name is Dale. I have several tractors and work mostly on them myself so I sometimes need assistance.

288XP Vaule

Saw a 288XP at a pawnshop the other day. Kinda rough shape, plastics faded a little, not much compression. It supposedly runs, although I didn't start it. It's the older model, with the "classic" recoil cover and steel brake handle. 20" bar and chain.

I'm wondering what the value of it might be. He said he'd take 225 for it, but I'm thinking maybe 200 tops, assuming that it's gonna need quite a bit of work and probably a piston.

I tried posting on Arboristsite, but that site is a crapshoot right now.

Fuel Treatment For Long Term Storage

I have a few pieces of equipment that are rarely used. I have been using SeaFoam as a fuel additive and Ethanol free fuel (100% pure gasoline, 91 Octane) to prevent fuel system issues due to the lack of use. I also try to run my engines dry in the fall. This spring, a push mower that I have not used in a while would not start due to plugged up jets. I don't recall if I ran it dry last time I used it, but the tank was dry this spring. Looking for advice for fuel treatments as I feel like SeaFoam did not work well for long term storage.

Thanks!

46" Mower Deck Bearing Rebuild - Worn Hubs?

$

I had some play in my blades/uneven cut and the sheaves were hot to the touch so I figured it was time to take a look at my bearings and possibly rebuild my spindles. I got the first one off and the spindle felt good. No gravel. But I pulled the sheave to take a look at the bearings anyway.

What I found is that the entire bearing is spinning in the hub. There is not enough friction on the outside of the bearing to hold it tight. If I put sideways pressure on the shaft the bearing will grab and rotate normally, but with no pressure the entire bearing just spins. Maybe there is enough sideways pressure when the belt is on that it's OK, I don't know. Or maybe the bearing is continuing to spin in the hub and wallowing out the hole larger. That might explain why things were getting so hot.

The entire shaft does rock back and fourth when I put sideways pressure on it, which I'm assuming is a bad sign too. You can see the bearing moving sideways in the hub when I do it.

I've tried punching them down further into the hub, but they don't go further. They are flush with the top of the hub so I'm thinking they are where they are supposed to be.

So.....I'm concerned I have worn hubs. I'd assume there should be a tight press fit on the ID and OD of the bearing when they go into the hub?

Is it time to replace the hubs? At $45 per pop I'm not too excited about replacing them, but will if I need to.

Lowe's 4218 tractor mowing deck?

Hello, I have been tracking the Lowe's 4218 through Dynamark to Murray to chance :-) The 18 hp B&S engine says it was born in Oct. 1984. The deck that came with the tractor is not the correct one. The tractor runs great and has more speed than my old Allis Chalmers. I am looking for a manual to purchase that would show me how the deck attaches to 3 holes on the running boards. Or what the correct mowing deck would look like? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

DA 916H Kohler K341 Muffler

I love my DA 916H after the rebuild but the K341 muffler (sound diverter, more appropriately) doesn't muffle much. I know the innards are gone as you can hear what I assume is the remnants of the baffle rattle around. Anyone ever uncrimp one of these and repair/repack it? It's a bit of a pricey little number from what I can find. Anyone using some automotive solution? I'm looking for something that will tone this beast down a bit.

TIA.
